Emma L. "Emma Lou" Ritter, 56, of Oneonta passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 14, 2017.

She was born June 19, 1960 in Pottsville, PA the daughter of the late William F. and Bessie (Eidem) Hartman.

Emma graduated from Blue Mountain High School in Schuylkill Haven, PA. She went on to further her studies in education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received her master's degree from The College of Saint Rose.

On August 11, 1984 she married Ronald A. Ritter in Hetzel's Church in Pine Grove, PA.

On August 11, 1984 she married Ronald A. Ritter in Hetzel's Church in Pine Grove, PA.

She was a fifth and sixth grade History teacher at Milford Central School. For several years she taught second grade and was also a special education teacher. Emma loved all of the children she taught throughout the years.

Emma enjoyed traveling to historic locations, baseball stadiums and Frank Lloyd Wright structures. She also loved to create stained glass, gardening, basket weaving and painting.

Emma became fond of cats, in the past 25 years. She always kept at least 2 cats in her home.

She is a member of the New York State United Teachers Association, past president and currently vice president; the New York State Historical Association and the National Baseball Hall of Fame. She was a former church camp director and camp counselor.

Emma is survived by her husband, Ronald A. Ritter of Oneonta; one uncle, Willie Kramer of Reading, PA; cousins, Beverly Kramer of Magadore, OH, Jennifer (Kramer) Gardner, Pine Grove, PA, Vickie (Kramer) Magayah, Canton, OH and Brian Kramer, State College, PA. She was predeceased by her parents and 14 aunts and uncles.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 5pm-7pm at the Lester R Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St, Oneonta.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 12:30 PM in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Laurens with the Rev. Paul Messner officiating.
